Enthused.....

Chris H. certainly seemed excited when he called about his running shoes the other day. He is ready to go full bore for that sprint triathlon in the spring. He got me thinking about it too. I am wondering if my knee will give me too much pain when I start back running. Here it is time for another week of strength training. Maybe I can balance the strength of my leg muscles over a little more time and reduce that painful chondromalacia. I still haven't decided about the swimming part yet. Finding a spot to do that part of the training is more difficult. I'll probably end up swimming in Lake Martin.

Before we do the event, I am planning for us to do a trial run in our own lake around here. A home grown variety. We can invite everyone interested and just do it on our own.

The redone mountain bike is great. I am really enjoying riding the hardtail. It is just what I've been needing.

Effigy of Grief

Effigies are used in grieving by  providing a tangible representation of what has been lost, allowing a mourner to connect with who or what they've lost , which can help with the process of acceptance and emotional expression, particularly when the loss is sudden or traumatic;  they can be used to focus grief and memories around a physical likeness, offering a sense of continued presence even in their absence

Altras

So I've gotten around to buying those Altra Zero Drop running shoes and have begun the transition program to get used to them. My only problem so far has been that sore gluteus muscle I got from the scooter falling on me. But I've managed two days of running and will continue to extend my distance until I get up to something near the training program for the Half Marathon. I don't know if Joe has signed us up for the run or not.

Spock

Spock is my favorite character in all fiction. A character who bridged the gap between two worlds and faced disdain from each. Who strove for excellence and exemplified strength, character, intelligence, and control. His nearly emotionless demeanor was a perfect foil for those who would attempt to intimidate or insult him. It was a style I would endeavor to imitate to thwart those attempting to insult, demean, or scare me in my own young life. I bought this little figure to remind me to guard against letting my defenses down and allowing emotional hurt to strike me. But I doubt my recollection of Spock will work for me again. It was the last gift from my past. Perhaps I will find another reservoir of strength.
