Derailed
I was all set to have a great weekend. Friday night I drove by Walmart and picked up more moisture management clothing to be ready for a Saturday morning run. The weather forecast called for milder temperatures with much lower humidity. It would be sunny with blue sky and fluffy white clouds. But it wasn't meant to be. I came down with a case of the flu. I got up that morning early with urgency and spent the whole morning in the toilet. I had a temperature and chills. I didn't even get to do this at home. I had no one to work for me so I went on in to work and did my regular shift. Mercifully I got home just after midnight and got a little rest. About 3:30am, I had to get out of bed for the bathroom. This is after 6 doses of Pepto-Bismol, and 16mg of Loperamide. I lay in bed this morning while the Grandboys played in my living room. Just as they were leaving I ventured up to make my way outside to tell them bye. Then I did my best to toughen up so I can get in this final day of work at COOSA. So I am here. Two of the prettiest days you will ever have in August, lost to me.

I decided to go for a little run...
I made good on my wish and went for a little run this morning. After purchasing the trail running shoes, I didn't have any shorts or shirts for running so I went by Walmart and got something to wear. When I got up this morning, I felt awful. No energy or desire to get out there. If it wasn't for having to go get Nikki's hammock, I'd have stood in bed. But having that chore, I rolled out, got dressed, and drove out to the Sylaward trail. There I rolled out for a little 4 mile run. I thought my first run out there would be great if I just made it up the ridge and around that loop and back. But once out there, I felt fine and just kept on going. In fact, I believe I could have kept on for a lot longer. Maybe even the whole 14 mile trail. One thing was on my mind. I was concerned that my knees, hips, and feet might have problems since it has been a long time from my last effort at running. Apparently cycling has kept me cardiovascularly fit.

Bev rides to Sycamore....Again!
Just like 3 years ago when Bev and I did her first official ride on the original blue tandem, Sycamore was our destination for her first official ride on the single I built for her. She made it! I assisted her on the uphills a couple of times the way Travis boosted Kelly that day out on 148 but that was after she blew out of town at a high rate. She later told me she tried to keep up the pace like we were on the tandem. I think it used up her energy early and she bonked a little on the way back. But it was a beginning.

Get Unstuck
It is time for a little resolve. I have been sort of lost in my fitness/weight control plan of late. I don't know what's gotten into me. I think one thing is that I need to eat better. Much of my calories come from carbs lately. I believe I need to switch to having more protein and adding fruits to my inbetween times. I have a vague awareness of a need to do some other kinds of workout. I mentioned to Paul about starting a weight program this fall. I also want to get in some trail running. That might have to wait for days when the mountain bike or road bike are not good choices. And I think I need to do some swimming. But the pool won't be open this winter. I am stuck thinking about it.
