It's raining it's pouring...

Our annual overnight hike just cancelled due to rain to be followed by snow with possible accumulation. I kept hoping against hope that the weather would move through early and leave us with a possibility. The benefit is a surplus of rain. After last year's drought, having sufficient water for bathing and the like is worth the inconvenience of postponing our hike.

Comet Lulin

Another chance to add to my collection of comet observations. I doubt anyone would want to get out at daylight to witness this but perhaps I should ask. The last one Sara and I saw from the bluff up on Cheaha. If we were up there this time, the walk path would make the trip less scary.

Spring like day...

Bev and I took the ATB tandem out on Wiregrass Road for a little ride. The temperature was nearly perfect. Less sunshine than yesterday but still a great day. We do the woods ride to avoid the Sunday church traffic. Still we met a half dozen cars on our ride. I put the clipless pedals on the bike and got a lot more power. But they are Nashbar pedals so getting in and out is a bit hard. I think We'll take our Grandson riding. Problem: The kids have been jeeping the ditches throwing mud to high heaven. I'll have to wait for it to dry before dragging a trail a bike across it. It did feel good burning up those calories.

A good day for a ride...

196lbs, 9 lbs to go. We rode 27 miles this morning. My legs felt so sluggish. I only managed around 13.8 miles per hour. A really slow ride. I didn't have the energy I left off the season with. Too many cold days with no riding have taken the toll. So now I have lots of work to do to be ready for 50 miles per day. Today is a really beautiful day. Blue sky, white clouds. Highs around 70. This morning was a little chill but it became a most pleasant ride.

Losses continue...

I first used this weblog to record my weight loss successes and training milestones. I set myself to lose those pesky pounds that reappeared around my midsection during the past year. So far I've made progress. Despite a healthy weight lifting routine that is building some muscle, I've lost 12 pounds so far since January 2nd. Tomorrow is another day to weigh in. I have used my PDA Diet Organizer program to monitor my intake. I've left off any calories expended by weight training. And true to my original plan, I've not eaten all the calories burned cycling or hiking thereby creating a greater likelihood of good losses.
