Ouch

On the hike yesterday morning, almost as I stepped onto the trail, I tore a muscle in my right calf. Very painful but I hobbled along for the 4 mile walk then spent a very sore evening at work. This morning the pain is better and the swelling appears to have gone down. I'm guessing it will take a good portion of next week to get better. I didn't cut calories today. I'm adding back some to power the healing process. Back to starvation tomorrow. If I'm able to hike or ride, I will burn some calories that way. If I can't then perhaps it's a good thing. I can just do all those chores I have left and perhaps get some yard work done. With a few bike rides or kayak paddles along the way.

Little waggle...

My scales showed a weight gain that has disappeared once again. So at 226 lbs on new scale or 214 on old scale. With a 2 lbs loss I'll be the same weight I marathon-ed with. Too heavy but a lot better than 260 that I must have been just after Christmas. So my hike today injured my right calf. Torn muscle most likely. No telling how long that will set me back

Lullaby

Despite being a big fan of those apocalyptic fictions as a young man and secretly wishing for the end of everything, I didn't anticipate what that would mean or how it would come or how long it would take. Unlike fictions where aliens, or an infection, or nuclear war, or some unknown terror bring the end, the true end will come through the very nature of humanity ourselves. Our predilection for selfishness. Our ease with which we anger. Our misapplied patriotism. Our general stupidity and aversion to intelligence. The dullest mocking and jeering while educated, literate ones attempt to teach and warn of coming perils. People rejecting that which is in their best interest while gleefully embracing those whose policies pander to their fears and prejudices.

Turning back time...

My current scale weighs 12 lbs heavier than my old ones. When I thought I weighed 190 I was actually 202. So my goal should change accordingly. But my weight is now down to 228 which would be 216 on the old scale. That's only 4 lbs above my weight when I ran the Marathon. Once I get down to there, I plan to resume trail running. Also need to resume long bicycle rides.
