End of a season....

Gladly today is the end of deer season. Perhaps shortly the woods will be quiet again. Perhaps the folks in 4 wheel drives will stop butchering the roads. The Forest Service can't line all the roads with rock to prevent this kind of foolishness. I see that the scope I bought for David needs the parallax adjusted. I'll try to get it right tonight so we can use it for target practice tomorrow. Good luck.

Cold days...

Although the rain has gone away for now, it has been cold mornings. While some might find low to mid 40's to be tolerable for a bike ride, I prefer it to be a little warmer. So I've been running or hiking instead. Today Paul and I did a little 4 mile turn with his dog Sasha.

Lovejoy

I took the boys out to see the comet. I don't think they were able to master the binoculars to see it but Bev, Sara, and I did. Add Comet Lovejoy to our list of comet observations. (Picture borrowed from Internet) I didn't get the chance to use my camera on this one. (But we got a second chance. I ordered binoculars astronomy and we were able to set them up on a tripod and both boys saw the comet. Just a big fuzzy blob in the heavens that won't be back around for 8,000 years.)

Running in the rain...

This morning was another rainy morning. Overnight showers moved into the state with sleet and snow flurries in northern Alabama. None for us though. But it was chilly. I did a 5k run this morning. I felt good and would have like to have gone further. Maybe tomorrow I can go out to the trail and put in a longer run.

It is still cold and wet...

It is still cold and wet. This year hasn't been great for riding so far. It should settle down soon. I got in some binoculars for comet viewing so with a little luck, we can go out and see the comet this week. I have some film so I can shoot some shots come some clear night.

Progress

After starting the week with oral surgery, I found my jaws much too sore to eat regular meals. We moved to applesauce, jello, soups, and various soft foods. Although I thought I over indulged toward the end of the week, the scale says I'm down to 215. That's great. A few more pounds toward my goal. The jaw is still sore so I've not returned to meals as usual but the loss is encouraging.

Ouch

Tuesday of this week I had that bad wisdom tooth removed. Boy did it damage my jaw. I've spent the rest of the week recuperating. I had hoped it would be like other extractions but it really has been tender. It has prevented me from doing hard work or running or cycling. It is probably best since temps this week have been very low.

The work week ends...

It is another Sunday night. The weeks pass quickly. It has been a little more lonely with the holiday reducing the hours for everyone except myself. I've been here with relatively little to do for the week. Every day since Wednesday has felt like Saturday. But if I can manage a few more hours, I'm done for another round. Under 2 hours now. Slowly.....

Christmas pounds....

I sneeked a peek at the scales this morning and I see that I have lost the Christmas weight I regained with perhaps another pound but we will see on Monday, the official weight day. To have lost all that weight gain is surprising to me since the chance to run, bike or paddle has been very slim since Christmas week. With all the preparation, cooking, rain, and cold...there has been very little chance for anything. So yay... Next week we are expecting winter weather. And I have to have a wisdom tooth removed. And then we have to take the boys to the dentist. So not much chance of  big workouts.

Packing up Christmas

The first of 2015 is wet. I spent a part of this morning pulling the boxes for our Christmas decorations out and packing away some of them. Bev and the boys pulled the rest and we got the boxes ready for the garage. They are now all snuggled up in the storage area to wait for another Christmas season. Next year, I think the plan is to have our traditional Christmas decorations instead of the crocheted ones. Rain and cold is keeping me from doing my exercise. That and the minor illness that snuck up on me. I felt nauseous and a little achy for a few days. At the same time I had a stuffy ear which made me think I had a sinus/ear infection. After a few days, it was clear that I just had a wax build up. After 2 days worth of Debrox, it is cleared up. David is coasting his bike for me. He is just a tad away from being able to ride. If the rain breaks tonight, I'll get him coasting again tomorrow. Maybe I can coax him into pedaling a bit and perhaps he will take off riding.
